Bio

Born in Houston, TX Ryon “Ellyon” Garner got his first taste of music at the hands of his parents, who regularly performed South Texas Gospel. At the age of 13, through the generosity of his grandparents, he acquired a drum kit and began learning to play. These drums ultimately catalyzed a burgeoning desire for deeper exploration of music.

Initially, branching out into funk and blues, Ellyon spent his days playing along with the great drummers of James Brown, Ray Charles and B.B. King. And, in high school he put his hard earned abilities to work joining the gospel band Glorybound.

When Glorybound eventually dissolved, the experience left him with a strengthened connection to music. And as the years passed he joined in with bands of various style and genre searching for an ever greater expressive freedom.

While playing in these bands Ellyon attended college pursuing a business degree in marketing. During these years of learning he allowed his curiosity for music to simmer. But after graduation, Ellyon directed his creative energies toward the piano. And as he progressed the keys began unlocking something dormant inside.

Finally, an intense drive for songwriting and lyrical study was manifested. This quest for catharsis that began his musical journey had lead him to the revelation of a truly hidden talent. None of his family were writers or composers of any kind. And yet this overwhelming sense of obligation fell on him to begin writing, with passion and purpose.
